Colchester Organizations Team Up To Support Town

Dateline:  August 10, 2007, Colchester, CT

The Colchester Lions, Colchester Rotary Club, and Colchester Business Association routinely give back to their community.  When they get together, however, their generosity and commitment to town reach new levels.

Over the past few months, the clubs have jointly developed and financed a plan to improve the Colchester Town Green.  After garnering support from all of the various stakeholders, such as the Bacon Academy Board of Trustees, the Historic District Commission, and the Colchester Historical Society, the clubs jointly committed thousands of dollars to fund the installation of sanitary and drainage lines on the green.

Tying into the sewer lines on Hayward Avenue, the sanitary line will provide hidden pipes where event operators can directly dispose of their waste water.  With the many events that each of the clubs produce on the green, this will greatly ease the setup, as well as increase the cleanliness for the public health.  The other half of the project will extend the drainage into areas of the green that routinely pool up after heavy rains, helping to maintain the condition of the green.

By combining the funding of the clubs, some trenching work by the Parks & Recreation Department, and the time and expertise of Paul Picard (a Lion’s Club member and professional plumber), the Town is getting significant improvements at little or no cost to the Town.  These organizations and their volunteers truly deserve recognition for their contributions.
